Don't Delay, Apply Today
Are you thinking of starting a new business? Maybe you should open a doggy daycare. Apparently, not unlike daycare or preschool for children, doggy daycare is a competitive market. I started looking for one this week for my dog, who with age can no longer stay home for a full working day without having an accident. I have called a few places, asked others about their experiences and I was quite surprised with the application processes. Almost all of them would like you to come in for a meet and greet session where the dogs are assessed for their personalities, how they get along with people, other dogs, etc... On a side note - good thing I am only looking for one of my dogs because they other one would not pass the assessment/personality phase.
Just as I started looking for a wonderful, high quality place for my
child dog to go, ABC Head Start started taking applications for the 2013-2014 school year. I thought about how competitive it is for parents to get their children into a high quality early learning program. Getting your child into the preschool of your choice can be can be as difficult as getting them into an elite college or university. Now imagine if you are a family living on limited income, your options are very limited if not non-existent.
Parents mark their calendars to make sure they are calling or emailing in their applications on March 4. The truth is some of our classes fill from parents who have applied on the first day. Sadly, for every one child we accept at ABC Head Start we have to turn two children away. On March 4 our intake team processed 95 applications. And to date after our first week of processing applications, over 180 families have applied. That being said, it is never too late to apply. So if you are a family living on limited income and want your child to have a high quality early learning experience make sure you apply today!
The good news is we are doing everything we can to try to reduce the number of families sitting on our wait list. It is ABC Head Start's priority over the next 5 years to find solutions to this problem. Starting with the 2013-2014 school year where we will be expanding our program by 84 spaces. We will continue to look for funding to be able to expand our program even further to reach more children and families and ensure children are getting that critical early learning experience to have them ready for Kindergarten.
