Opening Doors for Children & Families

Go Shine Your Light

I heard something on the radio this morning I could totally relate to. The morning show host was talking about how teachers returning to work after having two months off are like survivors of a northern BC plane crash. That for two months they have just been wandering around eating moss and berries, and they were rescued and expected to just go right back to work. After being off for that period of time it's true, you are are a little rusty.

I would argue ABC Head Start staff have one of the most demanding, challenging jobs in the world. Once those children and families walk through the door on Tuesday everyone has to be at the top of their game. Because for many of these children and families it is their first school experience and it is our job to make sure they are successful in this critical life journey.

As we embark on another school year I figured everyone who works with children and families could use some motivation. Something that reminds us all why we do what we do. Something to clean off the little bit of rust ;) And who better to give that message than an amazing life long teacher, the late Ms. Rita Pierson. To all of the educators, supporters, & caregivers of children and their families, I wish you a successful and wonderful year. Go shine your light so that children and families will discover theirs. Go create your legacy!

ABC Head Start provides an early learning program for children with comprehensive family support in multiple locations across the city of Edmonton. To qualify for the program your child must be at least 3 years, 6 months old by September 1st and your family must fall within our low income guidelines. There is no charge for the program. This spring we will be holding Registration Events across the City of Edmonton where we will be meeting children and families, processing applications and determining eligibility for the program.
