When I was a child, my parents used to spoon on the couch when we would watch TV as a family. Actually to this very day my parents spoon on the couch when they watch TV (awwwww...) The crook of their legs was the most sought after spot in the whole house. In our house we called that spot THE SANDBOX. As soon as my parents would even look like they were heading towards the couch one of us would yell "I get the sandbox!" It was warm and cozy and the best place to sit to watch TV. And then to make it all a bit sweeter, a large blanket would be thrown over all of us. What a great place to be as a child on a cold winters day!
When I found out that our McKee site is making family blankets it brought me back to the sandbox. I was thrilled that the Social Worker was doing this! She is teaching the families how to make fleece blankets that are big enough for the whole family to share, perfect for those cold winter nights. The parents are overjoyed! One parent talked about how she would teach all of her family members and friends how to make the blankets too, and how they would make perfect Christmas presents. How exciting! The parents are so thrilled they wanted to make more...but there's a catch...
The fleece for each family blanket costs about $20. This would go far beyond our Social Workers budget. But this has not stopped her! Recently I received an event on Facebook, as this Social Worker is going to try to raise $500 to buy the fleece needed to make these blankets. What a special gift she is giving the families this holiday season.
