A few of us ABC Head Start Society staff were at an event on Thursday.  We had the opportunity to chat with community members.  Some of the community members had never heard of our organization before, or some related ABC Head Start strictly to education.  As we discussed ABC Head Start Society, it was wonderful to be able to say "Oh but we are so much more than an education program."  ABC Head Start provides support and programming for the whole family.  The Head Start program is geared towards children ages 2 - 5 years old AND THEIR FAMILIES because we realize that that is where the big changes...

When I was on my little "vacation" from ABC Head Start Society, I had the opportunity to work with some really outstanding leaders.  One of these inspirational leaders had an employee book club.  He presented books employees could learn and grow from and everyone had the opportunity to be involved.  We read some really great books.  

The last book I received was James Kerr's, Legacy.  It was gifted to me right before I went on my maternity leave.  I was in a very busy job and I intentionally took my maternity two months early so I could RELAX, take bubble baths, get the baby room ready and read...

And just like that we blinked, and the summer of 2017 was over.  

Bittersweet but it's BACK TO SCHOOL TIME!  This time of year always gives me feelings of excitement and anxiety even though I am not going back to school.  It must just be all those years of shopping for supplies, picking out a "first day outfit," and combing over every detail to make sure I was ready to jump on that yellow bus.

Aleda Patterson Community Spirit Award  

Aleda Patterson is the founder of ABC Head Start and a committed contributor in the Edmonton area; she is a visionary and an advocate who believes in empowering others to reach their full potential.

ABC Head Start Society's Annual General Meeting will be held on Monday, November 17th from 12:00 - 2:00 pm. It will be hosted at the St. John's Institute, located at 11024 82 Avenue. A light lunch will be served from 12:00 - 12:30 pm followed by the meeting from 12:30 - 1:00 pm for parents, Board members, and staff. Following the meeting, there will be a Family Services Review with Focus Groups from 1:00 - 2:00 pm. Childcare will also be provided.

The RSVP deadline is Thursday, November 6th by 5:00 pm. Please contact Angela Buck at 780-461-9842 to RSVP.

ABC Head Start provides an early learning program for children with comprehensive family support in multiple locations across the city of Edmonton. To qualify for the program your child must be at least 3 years, 6 months old by September 1st and your family must fall within our low income guidelines. There is no charge for the program. This spring we will be holding Registration Events across the City of Edmonton where we will be meeting children and families, processing applications and determining eligibility for the program. We are holding Registration Events during the spring for programming to start in September. Please see the For Parents and Agencies page of the website for details.
