Opening Doors for Children & Families

Class of 2012

At ABC Head Start we have employees who have been with the agency from the very beginning (or nearly the very beginning.) This week something very special happened for two of those employees. As they were working away in the classroom there was a knock at the door. They recognized the woman right away, she was a past parent of ABC Head Start. Beside her was a young man dressed in a tuxedo. They introduced themselves and instantly the two teachers remembered them.

The young man was a past ABC Head Start child. He was graduating from high school, and this was his graduation day. He and his mother had decided that during the day, before all of the graduation festivities, they would travel to his schools and once again connect and thank the teachers who had helped shape his world.

The ABC Head Start teachers were incredibly moved. They took pictures with the young man and his mother. They discussed their time at ABC Head Start and how it had shaped and changed every member of their family. They talked about the future, and how he is planning to attend University in the fall. As they parted ways the mother told the teachers she would be back with her two other children in the next few years, all of whom attended ABC Head Start.

In the words of Benjamin Franklin, "An investment in knowledge always pays the best interest."

Congratulations to the Class of 2012! Remember to celebrate those who helped get you to this day.

At ABC Head Start we believe the best way to help children is to strengthen families and community. As we work together in partnership we benefit from the shared enthusiasm, energy and ideas that each partner contributes. Community support ensures the continued success and sustainability of ABC Head Start. Every year volunteers donate thousands of hours of time in classroom and non-classroom activities. Find out how you can get involved today!
