Opening Doors for Children & Families

I Love This Place!

Have you ever wanted to shout something from a mountain top? Well I do! But I don't have a mountain top so I will just use this blog - ABC HEAD START IS A GREAT PLACE TO WORK! Phew, I feel much better. I think about it almost every day, how lucky I am to work for such a great agency. I'm not just saying this because I know my Executive Director reads this blog, no I just think everyone needs to know. I've never been comfortable with harbouring such important information, I like to share!

So I got thinking about WHY I love this place so much and WHAT is it that makes me feel this way. Is it that yearly we touch over 368 families lives? Is it that everytime I walk through the door of our classrooms I get those awesome "leg hugs" that 3 and 4 year olds are so great at giving? Is it the inspiring and wonderful teachers, social workers, educational assistants, speech and language pathologists, and various other passionate people I get to work with? Well all of these keep me here, no doubt but are not the reason I love this place so much.

The main reason ABC Head Start is so fantastic is that we are a learning organization. Wikipedia (the most reliable source out there) defines Learning Organizations as "the term given to a company that facilitates the learning of its members and continuously transforms itself." And the even more exciting it's not just something we say it's something we do! We allow staff to be creative and innovative, to take risks and try new things, we challenge people to think 'outside the box', and always grow professionally and personally. If your place of work hasn't adopted characteristics of a learning organization, maybe you should look into it. It just might make you love YOUR place even more.

With the support of volunteers, ABC Head Start Society is able to support vulnerable children and families throughout the year. Volunteers contribute by sharing their ideas, talents and energy to events, on our Board of Directors and fundraisers, and in providing direct support to children, parents/caregivers and families.
