The goal of this program is to provide immigrant parents with skills to raise their children in a Canadian society with much focus given in maintaining their cultural traditions.
This Parenting Program does not aim to assimilate immigrant parents into Canadian society. Rather, it hopes to work with immigrant parents to maintain their positive cultural values and parenting practices, and at the same time to acquire knowledge and skills in order to effectively interact with their children and the community in which they live.
There will be five sessions in this program:-
• Introductions
• Maintaining your own culture while parenting in Canada
• Parenting Styles – are there differences between cultures
• Understanding Canadian customs and laws
• Effective problem solving and communication strategies
